National Make-A-Will Month invites us to reflect on how we will prepare for the future and ensure the security of our loved ones. Fr. Nikolai Breckenridge, President of the St. Tikhon’s Alumni Association, recently used FreeWill and offered the following reflection:

Over the years in my service as a parish priest, I’ve encountered more situations than I’d like where someone passes away suddenly without having left a will. Each time, it places an enormous burden on their loved ones—who are already grieving—now having to manage the arrangements for the funeral and sort through the many unknowns that follow such a loss.

Because of this, I’ve often encouraged parishioners to prepare a will as a gift to their families. It’s not something only for the elderly—we never know when the Lord will call us, so it’s wise to be prepared even in our 30s or 40s. Having things in order is an act of love.

After years of offering this advice to others, I’ve finally taken steps to do the same myself. I’m very grateful that St. Tikhon’s Seminary has partnered with FreeWill to offer a simple, free estate planning tool. The process is straightforward, with helpful, concise explanations at every step.
