Elijah's Mantle: A Ministry of St. Tikhon's Seminary

Elijah’s Mantle is a ministry that serves as a conduit for used and excess liturgical items to find renewed purpose in the life of the Church. Rather than being set aside or forgotten, these items are able to be reused by other churches, missions, and clergy wherever they are needed. The ministry relies completely on the generosity of donors such as parishes with an abundance of items, churches that are closing, and families or clergy who have reposed or retired. Through their gifts, Elijah’s Mantle is able to receive and distribute a wide range of items, including cassocks, vestments, icons, liturgical books, and liturgical utensils. Each item accepted must be serviceable and ready for use, as the ministry is not equipped to handle pieces in need of extensive repair or that are not serviceable.

Once received, these items are made available to any church, mission, or clergy of the Orthodox Faith who request them. They are offered freely, with no cost other than shipping, so that the blessings of these items can continue in communities that may not otherwise be able to afford them. In this way, Elijah’s Mantle provides tangible support to missions and parishes, while also honoring and preserving the sacred character of items once used in other communities.

Donated items are shipped to and stored at St. Tikhon’s Seminary in South Canaan, Pennsylvania. There, they are cared for by the seminary’s students, who ensure that each piece is handled with reverence and prepared for its next place of service.
