On Bright Monday, April 20, 2009, on the invitation of Tatiana Grigorievna Chelovenko, Chair of the Faculty of Religious Studies and Theology of the University of Orel (Orel, Russia), Fr Alexander Golubov, Academic Dean of St. Tikhon’s Seminary, met with a group of students, instructors and staff of the Faculty. In a warm and collegial atmosphere, a cordial and focused discussion of issues of teaching and learning theology in institutions of higher education ensued, together with a mutual and fruitful sharing of experience. In commemoration of the meeting, Fr Alexander presented the Faculty with an icon of Patriarch St. Tikhon of Russia and St. Tikhon of Zadonsk, patron saints of our Seminary. On the following morning, Bright Tuesday, Fr Alexander presented a guest lecture on principles of Seminary formation at the Orel Institute for Continuing Pedagogical Education to a group of professional teachers taking a course in education methods. Of particular interest to the teachers was a discussion of principles of spiritual formation in secular society.
