The mission of the Office of the Academic Dean is to provide leadership in the overall academic functioning of the Seminary and to cause implementation of academic policy.

As the Chief Academic Officer of the Seminary, the Academic Dean has the primary responsibility for implementing academic policy and ensuring the integrity of the ongoing teaching and learning process of the Seminary; bearing responsibility for the overall quality of academic programs, curricula and methods of instruction, as well as evaluating the quality and performance of the Faculty.

Biography

ARCHPRIEST ALEXANDER S. GOLUBOV, Ph.D., Academic Dean and Associate Professor of Pastoral Theology and Spirituality, attended Temple University (B.A. in English Literature), the University of Rochester (M.A. and Ph.D. in Russian Literature and Intellectual History) and St. Petersburg Theological Seminary and Academy (Pastoral and Theological Formation).

He began teaching at St. Tikhon's in 1984-85, returning in 1990 and becoming Academic Dean in 1996. Previously he was Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Rochester and taught at Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. He has pastored parishes in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey, and has served on the Bishop's Council of the Patriarchal Parishes of the Russian Orthodox Church in the USA, the Governing Board and Executive Committee of the National Council of Churches of Christ, USA, and the Pre-Conciliar Commission for the 2002 All-American Council.

Author of more than 20 published articles, including "Spirituality in the Orthodox Context," the Foreword of Dumitru Staniloae's Orthodox Spirituality, he has contributed to Sourozh ("The Rags of Morality: Original Sin and Human Nature") and Pravoslavnaia Entsyklopediia (articles on the Alaskan Diocese and Bishop Amphilochius, in Russian). He has also spoken at various confer­ences, including "Issues of Religion and Identity in Russian History and Culture" at Boston Theological Institute/Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology and "The Struggle for Ecclesiology" at the Davis Center at Harvard University. Most recently, he lectured at the 28th annual Yale-Hopkins Summer Seminar at Yale University on the topic "Understanding Medvedev's Russia: the Orthodox Church."
